Washington (HRNW)– The United States has sent a strong message to European countries, warning that if Europe does not increase its defense responsibilities, Washington may withdraw from NATO. According to sources, the United States wants Europe to assume most of NATO’s defense responsibilities so that the burden of the alliance does not fall solely on Washington.
US officials say that although European countries have increased their defense capabilities after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the current level is still not satisfactory. The United States is constantly urging European countries to increase their defense budgets and practically play a greater role in NATO.
Meanwhile, the recent statement by the United States is being described in European circles as a “strong and clear message”, after which a new debate on defense policies among NATO countries is likely to begin.
