Detention of Mufti Asjad Raza Khan Qadri in Riyadh: Organizations Urge Immediate Diplomatic Intervention

Riyadh (HRNW): Concerns are mounting across religious circles following reports that the prominent Barelvi scholar, Mufti Asjad Raza Khan Qadri, has been detained by local authorities in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Various international organizations have called upon the Indian government for urgent diplomatic intervention to secure the release of the scholar, who was in the Kingdom to perform Umrah.

The Muslim Students Organization (MSO) stated that Mufti Asjad Raza Khan is a highly respected Sufi scholar from India, representing the historic Dargah Ala Hazrat in Bareilly—a global center for Sufi thought, peace, and religious harmony. Simultaneously, the Mumbai-based Raza Academy has dispatched an official letter to the Saudi Arabian Ambassador. In the letter, President Mohammed Saeed Noori urged Saudi authorities to prioritize the matter and take immediate steps for his release, emphasizing that the Mufti is the grandson of Imam Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi and a spiritual leader to millions. The organizations have requested the Indian Ministry of External Affairs to coordinate through the Indian Embassy in Riyadh to provide necessary consular assistance and ensure that the spiritual leader is treated with the dignity and respect due to a “guest of the Holy Land.”
