Talks about my possible replacement have been circulating for the past 10 years: Murad Shah

Karachi (HRNW): Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah addressed a press conference covering political, financial, and development-related issues.

He said that talks about his possible replacement have been circulating for the past 10 years, adding that he is unaware of those spreading such rumors. He stated that the four names being mentioned are all Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers, and therefore he feels no threat.

The Chief Minister said that the Safe City project will help control crime, while the government is taking strict action against corruption. He added that several contracts have been cancelled and arrests have been made, with recovery of funds in multiple cases.

He remarked that “a few bad apples should not be allowed to spoil the entire system,” and reiterated that action against corrupt officials will continue.

On federal financial matters, he said that payments to the federal government are a constitutional obligation, not “extortion”, and that provincial shares under the NFC Award are determined by the Constitution.

He noted that revisions to the NFC formula are under consideration but can only be made through mutual consensus.

Regarding development projects, he said delays in the University Road project were mainly due to contractor inefficiency, and assured that traffic on the road will be restored by the end of July.

He added that progress improved after awarding the contract to FWO, and apologized for public inconvenience.

The Chief Minister further stated that Sindh’s non-development budget cuts are lower compared to other provinces, and the government will ensure payment of minimum wages.

He highlighted that Sindh is the only province earning revenue through carbon credits, and mentioned ongoing river forest and delta projects.

Murad Ali Shah said that the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has a revenue target of Rs 15.264 trillion, expressing hope that it will achieve its target this year.

He also stated that federal defense-related funds were released under a constitutional provision used for the first time, and paid tribute to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in this context.
