Islamabad (HRNW): The Federal Constitutional Court has dismissed a petition filed by a woman regarding a sexual assault case. A three-member judicial bench, headed by Justice Hasan Rizvi, presided over the hearing.
Courtroom Dialogue and Judicial Inquiries
During the legal proceedings, the bench raised serious questions regarding the timeline and nature of the events:
-
The Court’s Query: Justice Hasan Rizvi inquired, “If the woman was subjected to sexual assault, why did she subsequently enter into a marriage with the same individual?”
-
The Defense’s Stance: Representing the woman, the female counsel responded to the bench that the accused had married the victim solely as a strategic move to cover up his crime.
A Rapid Timeline of Rape, Marriage, and Divorce
Justice Rozi Khan further questioned the subsequent breakdown of the marriage, asking how the woman was divorced so shortly after the wedding.
The woman’s legal counsel provided the exact timeline of the events to the court:
-
June 17, 2025: The accused allegedly committed the sexual assault.
-
June 26, 2025: Merely nine days later, the marriage between the accused and the victim took place.
-
August 6, 2025: The accused formally divorced the woman.
Upon reviewing the dates, Justice Rozi Khan remarked on the unusual speed of the events, observing:
“Rape, marriage, and divorce—didn’t all of this transpire far too quickly? Such plots usually only exist in movies.”
Following the arguments and reviewing the circumstances, the Federal Constitutional Court officially dismissed the woman’s petition.
