Nigerian President Claims Over 13,000 Terrorists Killed in Past Year

Abuja (HRNW)- Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has claimed that more than 13,000 terrorists have been killed across Nigeria since last year as security forces continue operations against militant groups and criminal gangs.

According to media reports, clashes with jihadist organizations and armed criminal networks remain ongoing in northern parts of the country, where kidnappings and violent attacks continue to pose serious security challenges.

In a televised address, President Tinubu stated that Nigerian security forces had killed over 13,000 terrorists since last year as part of intensified counterterrorism efforts.

The Nigerian government declared a national security emergency in November last year in response to a surge in kidnappings, armed violence, and militant activities across several regions.

Nigeria has faced a prolonged insurgency since 2009, when the extremist group Boko Haram launched its armed campaign. Since then, tens of thousands of civilians have been killed, while millions have been displaced from their homes due to ongoing violence and insecurity.

Security experts say that despite military successes against militant groups, significant challenges remain in restoring long-term peace and stability to affected regions.
