Athens (HRNW)- Greek police have charged a 26-year-old Afghan national with premeditated murder, robbery, and illegal weapons possession in connection with the killing of a British woman whose body was found inside a suitcase in the Greek capital.
The body of 38-year-old Elizabeth Jane Ross, also known as Lisa, was discovered inside a suitcase in a car parked in a deserted area of Kapsili, Athens, on July 18. According to police, the body was found by a homeless man.
Authorities said the arrested suspect confessed to the murder during questioning. Initial investigations revealed that he had met Elizabeth Jane Ross through her social work, where she assisted refugees and homeless people.
Police said the suspect was arrested in central Athens after investigators found that he had used the victim’s bank cards to withdraw money, helping authorities trace his whereabouts.
According to the investigation, Elizabeth Jane Ross had informed her Greek friends three days before her body was found that she was leaving her accommodation outside Athens to meet American friends in Cappadocia.
Police also said the suspect’s fingerprints were recovered from the suitcase, while CCTV footage allegedly showed him transporting the suitcase to the deserted parking area where it was later discovered.
Greek authorities have registered cases of premeditated murder, robbery, and violations of weapons laws against the suspect, while further investigations into the case are continuing.
