Tehran (HRNW)- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has declared that revenge for the assassinations of former Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh and Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is inevitable and will be “harsh and crushing.”
According to Iranian media, the IRGC issued the statement on the second anniversary of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, saying that his killing had strengthened the resolve of the Palestinian people and Hamas to continue what it described as the path of resistance, while also increasing international support for the Palestinian cause.
The statement said that the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh during the Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony in Tehran on July 31, 2024, while he was attending as an official guest, constituted a major crime and a violation of international law, as well as Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The IRGC further claimed that developments over the past two years, including the war in the Gaza Strip, the expansion of conflict into southern Lebanon, and subsequent military confrontations involving Iran, had further exposed what it described as the criminal nature of the Israeli government.
The statement also criticized the United States and several Western countries for providing military and political support to Israel, alleging that such support made them complicit in war crimes and genocide against the Palestinian people.
According to the IRGC, the blood of Iranian, Palestinian and Lebanese figures, including Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ismail Haniyeh, former Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, and General Qassem Soleimani, symbolizes Muslim unity against what it described as arrogance and Zionism.
The statement added that global support for Palestine has increased significantly, pointing to demonstrations around the world against Israeli military actions in Gaza.
The Revolutionary Guards also rejected what they described as efforts to disarm Hamas, asserting that such attempts would fail and that Ismail Haniyeh’s mission would continue until the aspirations of the Palestinian people were achieved.
The IRGC concluded by reiterating that revenge for the assassinations of Ismail Haniyeh and the former Supreme Leader is inevitable and will be “harsh and crushing.”
