Washington (HRNW)- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has claimed that Iran is now more willing than before to negotiate over its nuclear program and issues related to the Strait of Hormuz following recent US military strikes.
In an interview with the American television network Fox News, Rubio said the US attacks had damaged Iran’s naval and air capabilities, missile defense systems, missile launch facilities, and some weapons manufacturing centers, significantly affecting the country’s military capability.
According to Rubio, the strikes have changed the strategic situation in the region, allowing the United States to negotiate with Iran from what he described as a stronger position.
He said he believes Iran now appears more willing to engage in talks than at any previous time because its defense capabilities have been substantially weakened.
However, the US Secretary of State acknowledged that Iran still possesses missiles and drones capable of carrying out attacks, although he maintained that the country’s overall military defenses are weaker than before.
There was no immediate official response from Iranian authorities to Marco Rubio’s remarks.
According to analysts, the continuing tensions between the United States and Iran, along with disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and developments in the Strait of Hormuz, are expected to remain key issues affecting Middle East stability and global security.
