ISLAMABAD (HRNW): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi conducted an extensive visit to the newly established National Forensic Agency (NFA), which has become fully operational within a record timeframe to provide state-of-the-art investigative support to law enforcement. During his visit, the Minister inspected a range of specialized facilities, including the Research and Innovation Lab, Digital Forensic Lab, Narcotics Lab, Fintech Lab, and the Questioned Documents Lab. He also reviewed the DNA, Firearms, Serology, and Explosives analysis rooms, commending the technical teams for their dedication in activating these crucial national security assets.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the establishment of a centralized National Forensic Agency was a critical necessity of the modern era, as it provides unique high-tech services that are currently unavailable to other institutions. He noted that the NFA will serve as a primary support hub for all provinces and federal law enforcement agencies to ensure justice through scientific evidence. To expand the reach of these advanced services, the Minister directed the immediate establishment of regional sub-offices in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Director General of the NFA, Hasnat Rasool, briefed the Minister that the first phase of the project is complete, with the Digital Forensics department already providing cutting-edge capabilities in Deepfake detection, computer and mobile forensics, audio-video analysis, network security, and drone forensics. Over the past year, the agency has successfully processed and issued reports for 1,500 digital forensic cases. DG NFA further revealed that work on Phase II will commence shortly, which will see the addition of 25 more specialized laboratories. High-ranking officials, including the DGs of ANF, FIA, NCCIA, and the IG of Islamabad Police, were also present during the briefing to discuss inter-agency cooperation.
