Pope Accepts Resignation of Spanish Bishop Amid Abuse Investigation

Cadiz/Ceuta (HRNW) The Vatican announced that Pope Leo Xornoza has accepted the resignation of Spain’s Catholic Bishop Rafael Xornoza. The bishop, who led the Diocese of Cadiz and Ceuta since 2011, is under investigation by a special church tribunal in Madrid for alleged sexual abuse in the 1990s, allegations he denies.

Rafael Xornoza, 76, becomes the first Catholic bishop in Spain to be officially investigated by the Vatican over such claims. The Vatican’s brief press release confirmed the resignation but did not elaborate on the details of the allegations.
