Strait of Hormuz (HRNW) – Iran’s Revolutionary Guards have claimed to have seized a cargo vessel allegedly linked to a US company in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz, citing alleged violations of maritime transit laws and regulations.
According to Iranian news agencies, the vessel was stopped while transiting through the waterway. Iranian authorities stated that four commercial ships operating under the supervision of the US military were attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and one of them was detained.
Sources quoted by Iranian media claimed that after the vessel was seized, the remaining three ships altered course and withdrew from the area.
Iranian state media also aired footage purportedly showing fast-moving Revolutionary Guard boats maneuvering around a large commercial vessel. However, the authenticity of the footage and the claims surrounding the incident have not been independently verified.
Authorities have not yet released complete details regarding the ship’s ownership, flag registration or cargo. As of now, there has been no official response from the United States government or US Central Command regarding the reported seizure.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical maritime trade routes, serving as a major corridor for global oil and natural gas shipments. Any disruption in the waterway can have significant implications for international trade and global energy markets.
Iran has previously detained foreign commercial vessels and oil tankers, citing violations of maritime regulations or security concerns. The United States and several Western countries have criticized such actions, arguing that they pose risks to international shipping and freedom of navigation.
The reported incident comes amid heightened tensions in the Gulf region, with international observers closely monitoring developments in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.
