Trump Says Frozen Iranian Assets Will Be Used to Compensate Commercial Ships Damaged in Strait of Hormuz

Washington (HRNW)- US President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will use money from frozen Iranian assets under its control to compensate for damage caused by attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, President Trump said the financial burden of damage caused by elements under the control of or associated with Iran should not fall on American taxpayers.

Donald Trump stated, “We will use Iran’s money to compensate for the damage that it has done. Iranian funds under our control will be used to pay for the damage to the affected vessels and the commercial goods.”

The US president’s remarks come amid growing concerns over global maritime trade and oil shipments following recent attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Reports of the incidents have also contributed to fluctuations in global oil prices.

According to reports, the US Treasury Department is finalizing details of the proposed plan, including the total estimated damages, the amount of frozen Iranian assets that could be used, and the mechanism for compensating affected parties.

So far, Iran has not issued an official response to President Trump’s announcement.

Political and economic analysts say that if the United States proceeds with using frozen Iranian assets for compensation, it could further heighten tensions between Washington and Tehran while raising significant legal and diplomatic questions at the international level.

Experts note that the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes for global oil trade, meaning any instability in the region can have a direct impact on international energy markets and the global economy.
