Southern Lebanon (HRNW) – The Israeli military has reported the deaths of two of its personnel in separate incidents during ongoing operations in southern Lebanon, where tensions between Israel and Hezbollah remain elevated.
According to an Israeli military statement, Captain Shahar Gamla, 23, succumbed to injuries sustained in a drone attack that Israeli authorities attributed to Hezbollah. The officer had been seriously wounded during the incident last Thursday and later died while receiving medical treatment.
The statement further said that Sergeant Ohad Yaari, 21, a member of the Shaked Battalion of the Givati Brigade, was killed in a separate shooting incident in southern Lebanon on Friday.
Israeli military officials stated that preliminary findings suggest Sergeant Yaari’s death may have resulted from an accidental shooting. The Military Police have launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the incident, and all aspects of the case are currently under review.
The deaths come amid continued military activity and security operations along the Israel-Lebanon border, where intermittent exchanges of fire and security incidents have been reported in recent months.
Regional observers continue to monitor the situation closely as efforts to reduce tensions face ongoing challenges.
