Power Subsidy to Continue for Consumers Using Up to 200 Units, Announces Federal Energy Minister Awais Leghari

ISLAMABAD (HRNW) – Federal Minister for Energy Awais Leghari has explicitly announced that the relief subsidy provided to millions of domestic consumers using up to 200 units of electricity will remain intact.

Speaking to media representatives in the federal capital, Awais Leghari stated that the government is consistently extending this financial cushion to low-income and middle-class consumers using fewer than 200 units, with a specific relief amount being credited directly to their monthly electricity bills.

Providing statistical insights, the federal minister disclosed that the number of consumers consuming 200 units or less—and thereby qualifying for this welfare initiative—has surged past 20 million across the country. He advised the subsidized consumers to actively utilize the unique ‘QR Code’ printed on their monthly utility statements by scanning it. He further maintained that the ministry is proactively working to digitally integrate all eligible consumers through this unified QR code tracking mechanism.

Addressing energy sector reforms and responding to ongoing public discourse, the Minister for Energy reiterated that the administration is committed to ensuring that only the rightful and deserving consumers continue to receive this financial aid. He criticized the politicization of the power sector and utility tariffs, pointing out that certain political figures routinely pass unsubstantiated remarks regarding electricity issues solely to win public applause and gather cheap political mileage.
