Sharmila Faruqui Slams Maulana Fazlur Rehman for Challenging State Authority

ISLAMABAD (HRNW): Senior politician Sharmila Faruqui has expressed strong indignation over the recent statements made by Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan (JUI-P), accusing him of openly challenging the writ of the state.

Reacting to his remarks, Faruqui stated that the JUI-P chief is essentially provoking the state by adopting a defiant “do whatever you want” stance. She raised concerns over the implications of such rhetoric, questioning what the consequences would be if a Member of the National Assembly were to challenge sensitive social issues, such as child marriage.

Faruqui demanded that Maulana Fazlur Rehman be held accountable for his provocative statements, calling for legal action and appropriate punishment. She emphasized that the supremacy of the law and the state is mandatory for every citizen, asserting that no individual, regardless of their political standing, should be allowed to exploit their position to violate the law of the land.
