KARACHI (HRNW): The Sindh Assembly has rejected a resolution seeking the cancellation of liquor shop licenses and a complete ban on the sale and purchase of alcohol across the province.
The resolution was moved by Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) member Anil Kumar, who demanded that the provincial government revoke all existing licenses and prohibit the trade of liquor. However, the assembly did not pass the resolution following strong opposition from the treasury benches.
Explaining the government’s stance, the Sindh Home Minister stated that banning liquor shops would impact various segments of society and diverse communities. Consequently, the proposal was formally rejected by the house on the basis that such a ban was not feasible under current social and administrative considerations.
