Karachi Water Crisis: 84-Inch Main Pipeline Fails, 96-Hour Repair Underway

KARACHI (HRNW): A massive water crisis has gripped various parts of Karachi following a major burst in the 84-inch primary trunk main pipeline located in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 19. The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has announced that emergency repair work is currently in progress.

According to the Water Corporation, the restoration process is estimated to take at least 96 hours. As a result of this technical failure, the city is facing a staggering daily shortage of approximately 200 million gallons of water.

The suspension of supply has severely affected several major localities, including:

  • Korangi and Landhi
  • Shah Faisal Colony
  • Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Gulistan-e-Johar
  • Saddar and Defense (DHA)
  • Mehmoodabad and PIB Colony

In an effort to manage the dwindling reserves, several water hydrants across the city have also been shut down. Residents have been advised to use water sparingly as the city braces for an extended period of shortage until the massive pipeline is fully functional.
