Lahore (HRNW)- Authorities in Lahore have decided to launch a crackdown on littering and environmental pollution, with joint operations by the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and the Punjab Safe Cities Authority scheduled to begin this week.
During the first phase, enforcement will be carried out in 10 major markets across Lahore, with authorities using surveillance cameras to identify individuals and businesses involved in littering.
According to LWMC CEO Shahryar Khan, Safe City cameras will be used to identify people throwing waste in public places, after which LWMC field teams will be dispatched to the location to take immediate action.
The CEO said field officers would be authorized to show shopkeepers video evidence of violations and impose fines ranging from Rs5,000 to Rs50,000 for littering.
Individuals or businesses found polluting the environment or burning waste could face fines of up to Rs500,000, according to the enforcement plan.
The initial markets included in the campaign include Mall Road, Jail Road, Ferozepur Road, Gulberg Main Boulevard, and Liberty Chowk, along with other major commercial areas.
LWMC officials said the crackdown would be expanded after the initial phase to cover additional markets, commercial centers, and individuals found throwing garbage from vehicles.
The initiative aims to improve cleanliness in Lahore and discourage practices that contribute to littering, waste burning, and environmental pollution in public areas.
Authorities have urged traders, motorists, and citizens to dispose of waste properly and comply with cleanliness regulations to avoid penalties.
