The UN World Food Programme is highlighting efforts around Kenya’s Dadaab refugee complex to strengthen food production, livelihoods and climate resilience in one of the country’s driest regions.

WFP said its work with the Kenyan government and local communities includes water management, farming and local enterprise aimed at helping communities become more resilient to drought and food insecurity.

The agency highlighted horticultural production supported through WFP programmes, including farming in an environment where rainfall is often unreliable. The initiative forms part of wider efforts to connect humanitarian assistance with longer-term food security and livelihood opportunities.

WFP said the experience demonstrates how investment in local agricultural capacity can complement emergency assistance and help vulnerable communities cope with increasingly difficult climate conditions.
