The United Nations General Assembly is holding a high-level meeting on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response on Friday, bringing governments and other stakeholders together to discuss how countries can strengthen their ability to prevent and respond to future health emergencies.
The meeting is focused on a multilateral and intergenerational approach based on equity, solidarity and shared responsibility. UN officials and participating governments are reviewing progress since the first high-level pandemic meeting in 2023 and discussing remaining gaps in surveillance, financing, research and equitable access to health products.
A political declaration is expected to be approved as part of the meeting. The event is taking place during the 81st General Assembly High-Level Week in New York.
