The United Nations is warning that millions of people in Somalia face worsening food insecurity as projected heavy flooding and humanitarian funding shortages threaten vulnerable communities.

The latest IPC analysis cited by UNICEF projects that 5.4 million people will experience crisis-level hunger or worse between October and December 2026, including 1.5 million people facing emergency levels of hunger or worse.

UNICEF said anticipated El Niño-related flooding could further worsen acute malnutrition among children during the October–December period.

The warning comes as humanitarian agencies face funding constraints while trying to maintain food, nutrition, health and other essential services for communities already affected by drought, conflict and displacement.
