Kabul (HRNW)- Armed operations by forces opposed to the Taliban have continued, with the Afghanistan United Front (AUF) claiming responsibility for targeted attacks against Taliban positions in Kabul and Kandahar. The group’s claims have not been independently verified, and Taliban authorities have not publicly confirmed the reported incidents.
According to the Afghanistan United Front, its fighters targeted a post belonging to a Taliban special unit linked to the Intelligence Directorate in Kabul. The group described the operation as part of its continuing armed campaign against the Taliban administration.
The group also claimed that it carried out a targeted operation in central Kandahar against a Taliban-affiliated figure identified as Mawlawi Sabit, whom it said was associated with the Aref Network and worked within the Taliban’s financial system. The AUF said Sabit was killed in the operation. Independent reporting has not verified the claim.
The latest claims follow a broader increase in reported activity by anti-Taliban armed groups. The Afghanistan United Front has said it carried out dozens of operations across Afghanistan in recent months, particularly targeting Taliban security and intelligence personnel.
The group announced in August that it had launched a military campaign against the Taliban and has since reported attacks in several provinces. The organization says its objective is to challenge Taliban rule and restore a different political order in Afghanistan.
The reported operations in Kabul and Kandahar highlight continuing armed opposition to Taliban rule despite the administration’s efforts to maintain security and control across the country.
