Peshawar (HRNW)- The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved a transport monetization policy for judicial officers, under which monthly transport allowances will be provided to members of the district judiciary from October 1, 2026. The policy follows recommendations for standardized transport monetization allowances for judicial officers.
According to the notification issued by the Finance Department, District and Sessions Judges will receive Rs195,000 per month, Additional District and Sessions Judges Rs175,000, Senior Civil Judges Rs150,000, and Civil Judges Rs100,000.
Under the policy, judicial officers will have the first right to purchase the official vehicles currently assigned to them, excluding Toyota Fortuner vehicles, at depreciated prices. Vehicles not purchased by officers will be handed over to the relevant administrative department of the provincial government.
The vehicle valuation will be reduced by 15 percent in the first year and 10 percent annually thereafter, subject to a minimum value of 55 percent of the vehicle’s original price. Officers purchasing their official vehicles will have Rs50,000 deducted from their monthly salaries as an installment, with the remaining amount to be recovered before retirement.
The policy also provides that officers who wish to retain their official drivers will face a monthly salary deduction of Rs30,000. Otherwise, the relevant driver positions will be removed from the sanctioned strength of the district judiciary and the drivers transferred to the surplus pool.
Vehicles purchased under the monetization scheme will not be permitted to display green number plates, according to the policy.
The notification further provides for an adjustment in the transport allowance if fuel prices increase by an average of 20 percent over six consecutive months. The provincial cabinet may also reduce the allowance in the event of a financial crisis or a substantial decline in federal financial transfers.
Any ambiguity or administrative issue arising during implementation will be resolved through consultation among the Finance Department, Peshawar High Court, Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Human Rights Department, and other relevant administrative departments.
The policy is part of wider efforts to standardize non-salary facilities for the district judiciary, following recommendations approved by the National Judicial Policy Making Committee in February 2026.
