Islamabad (HRNW) — United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Pakistan Army Major General Javed Ahmed Qazi, Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military), as the new Force Commander of the United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO).
The appointment is being seen as an important recognition of the professional capabilities, discipline and longstanding contributions of Pakistan’s armed forces to United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Pakistan has been contributing personnel to UN peacekeeping missions for decades, serving in conflict-affected regions around the world and playing a significant role in efforts aimed at maintaining international peace and security.
