KARACHI (HRNW) – Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has launched a rigorous crackdown across the city targeting gas theft and the use of illegal pressure-boosting suction pumps.
In a statement issued today, an SSGC spokesperson announced that the company is moving beyond mere fines. Authorities will now register formal criminal cases and make immediate arrests of individuals involved in these illegal activities. Specialized teams equipped with advanced detection technology will conduct door-to-door searches to identify and confiscate illegal devices.
The spokesperson characterized illegal suction pumps as “dangerous bombs,” noting the severe safety risks they pose to residential buildings. To deter their use and prevent gas wastage, offenders will face heavy fines of up to PKR 500,000. These measures are part of a broader effort to ensure public safety and maintain a stable gas supply for law-abiding consumers.
