Karachi (HRNW) — Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho attended the 9th CSR Leadership Conference 2026, organized by Rotary Club Karachi Bay and the Intellects Club.
The conference was held at a private hotel in Karachi and attended by Intellects Club Chairman Muhammad Hanif Khan, Patron-in-Chief Admiral (Retd.) Tanvir Ahmed, Secretary General Zeeshan Hashmi, Rotary Club Karachi Bay President Major (Retd.) Pervez Awan, Rotary Club Karachi Secretary Syed Tehreem Ahmed, and other members of the business community.
Addressing the conference, IG Sindh Javed Alam Odho said the corporate sector possesses substantial resources and an exceptional ability to influence society, making its social responsibilities equally significant.
He said Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is no longer limited to financial assistance or welfare projects, adding that creating a positive social environment is also an important component of corporate responsibility.
The IG Sindh said that in the age of social media, negative content spreads rapidly, making it equally important to highlight positive initiatives and good performance as part of social responsibility.
Javed Alam Odho said the fundamental responsibility of police is to protect the lives, property and dignity of citizens and control crime. However, he noted that policing has become increasingly complex in the modern era.
He stressed the need to strengthen trust and communication between police and citizens, saying community policing has become a fundamental component of modern policing.
The Sindh IG cited the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) as an important example of police-community partnership in Karachi, saying it has played an effective role in preventing crime and assisting police investigations.
According to Odho, traditional policing methods are no longer sufficient for a major city like Karachi, making modern technology and electronic surveillance increasingly necessary.
He said that “Mini Safe City”-style surveillance systems have been established in the jurisdictions of more than 18 police stations with cooperation from communities and the private sector.
The IG Sindh further said Karachi is benefiting from a network of more than 40,000 cameras, which, according to him, has significantly assisted crime investigations and the arrest of suspects.
Javed Alam Odho said CSR and community policing represent two aspects of the same fundamental concept, emphasizing that strong partnerships among state institutions, the business community and citizens are essential.
At the conclusion of the event, awards were presented to members who had made notable contributions in various fields.
