Karachi (HRNW)- The Sindh government has prepared a plan to purchase 500 electric buses as part of efforts to further expand and modernize the province’s public transport network.
The Transport Department has submitted a summary seeking approval from the provincial cabinet for the procurement of the new electric buses.
Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that once the cabinet approves the proposal, the electric buses will be introduced in different cities across the province in phases. He said the government is continuing efforts to expand public transport facilities beyond Karachi.
Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government’s priority is to ensure that modern and affordable transport services are available to people across Sindh. He added that the scope of the Peoples Bus Service is being continuously expanded through the introduction of new routes.
The minister said 50 double-decker buses are scheduled to arrive in Sindh by November 30 and will be deployed on various routes to increase passenger capacity and improve transportation facilities.
He also said the Peoples Bus Service launched in Qambar Shahdadkot has received a positive response, with residents of Qambar, Shahdadkot, and surrounding areas appreciating the modern transport service.
According to the senior minister, the electric bus project will be an important addition to Sindh’s public transport system and is expected to help address growing transportation challenges in the province’s urban areas.
