New York (HRNW)- Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has accused European countries of applying what he described as “double standards” in their response to recent regional developments during a meeting with Dutch Foreign Minister Tom de Bruijn on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to a statement shared through Araghchi’s Telegram channel, the Iranian foreign minister criticized what he characterized as European silence or acquiescence toward US and Israeli military actions against Iran.
Araghchi argued that European governments could not simultaneously emphasize the rule of law and human rights while, in Tehran’s view, remaining indifferent to or supporting military actions by the United States and Israel. These were statements made by the Iranian foreign minister and represent Tehran’s position.
During the meeting, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom de Bruijn emphasized the importance of diplomacy and presented the Netherlands’ position on ongoing regional developments and relations between Iran and European countries.
The meeting took place as diplomatic activity intensified in New York during the UN General Assembly, with Iranian officials holding discussions with European and other international counterparts over the conflict and wider regional security issues.
The talks also came amid continuing indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, with mediators involved in efforts to reduce tensions and explore possible diplomatic arrangements.
The latest engagement highlights the competing positions among Iran, European governments, and the United States as diplomatic efforts continue alongside the broader regional conflict.
