Arif Habib Consortium Plans to Acquire Remaining 25% Government Stake in PIA

Islamabad (HRNW) – The Arif Habib Group-led consortium has announced plans to purchase the government’s remaining 25 percent stake in Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which would give the private consortium full ownership of the national carrier.

According to consortium officials, the decision to acquire the remaining shares is expected in April, with payment to be completed within 12 months. The consortium had earlier purchased 75 percent of PIA’s shares for Rs135 billion, as part of the government’s privatization plan aimed at restructuring the airline, expanding its fleet, and improving passenger services. Officials say that once the remaining shares are acquired, PIA will operate entirely under private-sector management without government-appointed oversight.
