Tel Aviv (HRNW)- Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has rejected US President Donald Trump’s 15-point Gaza peace plan, saying Israeli forces will not withdraw from Gaza until Hamas is completely disarmed.
According to foreign media reports, Netanyahu told a cabinet meeting that Israel does not accept the proposed plan and that Israeli troops will remain in Gaza as long as Hamas continues to pose a threat to Israeli forces and civilians.
Netanyahu said Israel wants Hamas to be genuinely disarmed, rather than what he described as a superficial or incomplete disarmament. He has also expressed a similar position in recent statements on social media.
Without providing specific details, Netanyahu said Israel is currently discussing the next steps with US officials and that some elements of the proposed plan are acceptable to Israel while others are not.
According to a BBC report, a Hamas official said the group remains committed to the promises made under the agreement and is prepared to implement the 15-point plan responsibly and seriously.
The Hamas official also called on mediators to ensure that all parties comply with the agreed terms.
US President Donald Trump had proposed the 15-point plan as a framework for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. The proposal included the disarmament of Hamas, with Hamas reportedly accepting the condition in connection with the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
Under Trump’s plan, Gaza would be administered by an impartial governing arrangement, while a proposed Board of Peace would oversee implementation of the agreement and efforts aimed at the rehabilitation and reconstruction of Gaza.
