Gaza City (HRNW)- Gaza Civil Defense rescue teams have recovered the bodies of 19 Palestinians from beneath a collapsed residential building in western Gaza City as part of an ongoing search and recovery operation.
According to media reports, specialized rescue teams are continuing the second phase of a large-scale body recovery project despite severe shortages of equipment and resources.
The rescue teams completed a four-day search and recovery operation at the Karam residential building on Al-Sina Street in western Gaza City, recovering the remains of 19 Palestinians believed to have been trapped beneath the structure after it collapsed during an Israeli attack.
Mohammed Abu Dan, executive supervisor of the Civil Defense body recovery project, said the teams had completed their search at the site and concluded operations at the location.
He added that specialized teams have now moved to another area of Gaza City to begin further recovery operations as part of the second phase of the project.
According to authorities, the second phase was launched on July 19 to search for an estimated 1,072 bodies believed to remain trapped beneath 147 destroyed homes across the Gaza Strip.
Civil Defense spokesman Mahmoud Bissal said rescue operations are continuing with extremely limited resources, including only an excavator, a bulldozer and a truck, with assistance from the International Committee of the Red Cross.
The ongoing recovery effort highlights the immense challenges facing rescue teams as they attempt to locate and recover victims from destroyed buildings across Gaza.
