Illegal Construction Resumes in Karachi’s District Central Despite Court Orders

KARACHI (HRNW) –  The wave of illegal construction in District Central remains unchecked as unauthorized building activities have reportedly resumed on Plot No. C-4, Rizvia Society, near Golimar Chowrangi, Nazimabad, despite previous judicial demolition orders.

According to reliable sources, a massive illegal structure—including a basement, ground floor plus three stories, a mezzanine floor, and multiple commercial shops and residential portions—is being rapidly developed. It is alleged that a “cosmetic demolition” was initially staged to mislead authorities, after which a stay order was obtained from the court to facilitate the resumption of full-scale construction.

Allegations of SBCA Complicity

Reports suggest that certain officials within the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) have allegedly provided a “green signal” to the builder. This defiance occurs despite clear directives from the Director General (DG) of SBCA to halt such violations.

Sources further claim that:

  • Illegal construction has become a routine occurrence in Nazimabad Town and Liaquatabad Town.

  • Some SBCA officials are reportedly acting as facilitators for the “builder mafia.”

  • There appears to be a disconnect between high-level inquiry notifications and the ground reality, where the same officials accused of misconduct continue to patronize these violations.

Public Demand for Accountability

Civil society and local residents have described the situation as “One Department, Two Systems,” highlighting the contradiction between official policy and field operations.

Citizens are demanding:

  1. Immediate and transparent action against the illegal structures on Plot No. C-4.

  2. A crackdown on all unauthorized developments across District Central.

  3. Legal prosecution of SBCA officials involved in facilitating these crimes to ensure the safety and security of public life and property.
