PTA Announces 5G Spectrum Auction on March 10 in Lahore, Commercial Launch Expected Mid-2026

Lahore (HRNW) – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has announced that the 5G spectrum auction will be held on March 10, 2026, with the commercial launch of 5G services expected by mid-year.

PTA Chairman Major General R. Hafeez-ur-Rehman stated during a press conference that three telecom operators are set to participate in the auction. He added that if more than 50 percent of the available spectrum is sold, the auction will be considered successful. Each operator will be allocated at least 100 MHz of spectrum, a move expected to significantly enhance mobile service quality and internet speeds across the country.

The chairman further revealed that preparations for 6G technology will begin immediately after the rollout of 5G services, with efforts underway to ensure that the future 6G auction is conducted without delay.

Key Points of the Auction:

  • At the industry’s request, the auction will not be conducted in dollars; instead, the dollar rate will be frozen on the auction day, and payments will be made at that rate.

  • The government has made 597 MHz of spectrum available for auction.

  • Participating companies must submit a $15 million deposit with their application by February 27.

  • The auction will be conducted in multiple clock-action rounds, with online participation also permitted.

Experts believe that the introduction of 5G will dramatically improve network speeds and digital connectivity in Pakistan, while early planning for 6G will support long-term technological advancement.
