Islamabad (HRNW)- The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has taken an important decision for solar consumers and announced to maintain the net metering policy for old solar consumers.
According to a statement issued by Nepra, a formal notification of the draft amendment to the Solar Policy 2026 has been issued, on which suggestions and opinions have been sought from all stakeholders within 30 days. The statement clarified that the proposed amendments will be implemented from February 9, 2026.
According to Nepra, the current net metering policy for old solar consumers will remain in place, which will provide relief to millions of consumers and they will not have to face additional financial pressure.
It should be noted that earlier Nepra had issued a notification to abolish the net metering policy and introduce the net billing system, over which serious concerns were being expressed by solar consumers. However, after the new decision, a clear reduction in the concerns of old consumers is expected.
According to experts, this move by NEPRA will help promote renewable energy, restore the confidence of solar consumers, and achieve green energy goals in the country.
