Sindh Introduces CNIC-Linked Vehicle Number Plates for Owners

Karachi (HRNW) – The Sindh Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has implemented the Provincial Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2024, allowing vehicle owners to retain number plates linked to their National Identity Card (CNIC).

According to officials, under the new system, the number plate will remain associated with the vehicle owner rather than the vehicle itself, enabling citizens to transfer their registered number plate to another vehicle they purchase. Two new number series linked to CNICs have also been introduced, and a formal notification has been issued after approval by Sindh Excise Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla. The move is aimed at improving vehicle registration management, transparency, and record-keeping across the province.
