Karachi (HRNW): In a significant decision, the Sindh government has immediately withdrawn all detention orders issued under the Maintenance of Public Order (MPO) between February 1 and February 9, 2026.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Home Department, all individuals detained under MPO during this period are to be released forthwith, provided they are not required in any other criminal case.
The Central Jail and District Jail Malir have been directed to ensure the immediate release of the concerned detainees and to complete all necessary procedures without delay.
The Home Department clarified in the notification that this decision has been taken in line with the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights and to ensure strict compliance with the law.
This move highlights critical human rights concerns, particularly the misuse of preventive detention laws and the importance of safeguarding due process and personal liberty.
