Karachi (HRNW): On the directives of Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, a major development has taken place in the Gul Plaza fire tragedy case, with the formal establishment of an Inquiry Commission to investigate the incident. The Sindh government has issued an official notification in this regard.
According to the Home Minister, Sindh High Court Justice Agha Faisal has been appointed as the head of the Inquiry Commission. The commission will conduct a detailed examination of the building’s construction approvals, legal status of the lease, and violations of the approved building plan.
The commission will also review obstructions in emergency exit routes, firefighting arrangements, and any negligence in fire safety audits. In addition, it will investigate the causes of the fire, the circumstances during the incident, and assess the speed and effectiveness of the rescue operation.
The Sindh Home Minister has directed that responsibility be fixed during the inquiry and that strict action be recommended against negligent government officials and the building management. He further stated that the Inquiry Commission, under the leadership of Justice Agha Faisal, will complete and submit its comprehensive report within eight weeks.
As per the notification, the Commissioner Karachi has also been instructed to provide full secretariat support to the Inquiry Commission.
Reaffirming the government’s stance, Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar said that the Sindh government will not delay justice for the victims of the Gul Plaza tragedy and that all facts will be brought to light through effective investigations and strict action.
