Karachi (HRNW): Lawyer Jibran Nasir, representing the family in the Mir Raza case, has expressed serious concerns over the notification of a new investigation team and changes to the medical board.
Speaking to the media, Jibran Nasir said the notification regarding the new investigation team was issued under the cover of darkness, raising concerns about the transparency of the process.
He said that despite eight days having passed since the incident, the investigating officer had still not recorded the complainant’s statement. He also questioned how a bullet casing could not be recovered for eight days and was then recovered immediately after a court order.
Nasir demanded clarification regarding the differences between the members of the previous and newly constituted medical boards. He said a new notification had been issued without first withdrawing the previous notification and questioned which order of the Secretary Health had been cited in the letter issued from Hyderabad.
He also questioned the investigative significance of recovering a bullet casing without recovering the firearm allegedly associated with it.
“We will not accept any alternative or Plan C,” Nasir said, adding that the family recognizes only the original eight-member medical board.
The lawyer further questioned the statement attributed to the Sindh Inspector General of Police that the case was close to being solved before the exhumation took place.
Nasir alleged that the medical board was changed overnight because of the influence of individuals allegedly involved in the killing. The allegation has not been independently verified.
