Rome, Italy (HRNW) – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is rapidly increasing preparedness measures as the developing El Niño climate pattern threatens to worsen food insecurity across vulnerable regions. WFP analysis indicates that climate-related shocks could significantly worsen food insecurity in 45 countries, placing additional pressure on communities already affected by conflict, displacement and economic hardship. The agency is calling for early action before climate shocks develop into full-scale humanitarian emergencies.
