New York (HRNW)- The United Nations has confirmed that Secretary-General António Guterres has remained in close contact with Pakistani leadership over Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran.
UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric said the Secretary-General was “grateful and appreciative” of Pakistan’s mediation efforts to help end the violence, describing the Islamabad understanding as a significant achievement.
Dujarric said Pakistan’s role had been important in efforts to bring Washington and Tehran back toward dialogue, adding that the United Nations was seeking to assist the mediation process where possible.
The UN has previously welcomed Pakistan’s efforts, alongside those of Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, and other regional countries, to support negotiations between the United States and Iran.
The UN spokesperson emphasized that a renewed dialogue between Washington and Tehran could create space for a diplomatic resolution. The Secretary-General has repeatedly called on the parties to pursue diplomacy and negotiations rather than further military escalation.
Pakistan has continued diplomatic engagement with the United States, Iran, and regional partners in an effort to facilitate implementation of the Islamabad understanding and support a lasting settlement to the conflict.
The latest UN comments come amid continuing tensions in the Middle East and renewed international calls for dialogue, de-escalation, and a negotiated resolution to the US-Iran dispute.
