Lahore (HRNW)- Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi over the party’s planned September 27 protest, referring to previous incidents involving violence and damage to public institutions.
In a statement posted on social media, Aurangzeb referred to the 2014 protests at D-Chowk and incidents involving attacks on PTV and Radio Pakistan, alleging that similar confrontational tactics could recur during the upcoming mobilisation.
She also criticized the KP chief minister and alleged that the PTI leadership was again preparing to challenge the state through mass mobilisation. Aurangzeb claimed that previous protests had involved clashes with police, damage to public property, and the use of petrol bombs and other forms of violence. These allegations represent her account of earlier events.
Aurangzeb said the government would not permit a repeat of the 2014 sit-in or the May 9, 2023 unrest, and argued that any protest must remain within the law. Her comments come as PTI continues preparations for its September 27 march, while authorities have increased security measures around Islamabad.
She further criticized the PTI’s political narrative and questioned the timing of the planned protest, citing the government’s economic and diplomatic policies. She alleged that demonstrations could affect police, Rangers personnel, businesses, transport, and ordinary citizens.
The remarks come amid heightened political tensions ahead of September 27. PTI leaders have said the march is intended to be peaceful and have continued to call for political dialogue, while government officials have warned that unlawful activity and attacks on public or state property will face legal action.
