Srinagar (HRNW) — A Black Day is being observed in occupied Kashmir today as India marks its Independence Day. On the appeal of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control and in different parts of the world are staging protests against what they describe as Indian control over the territory.
According to Kashmir Media Service, various pro-freedom leaders and organizations have supported the APHC’s call. Kashmiris living around the world are holding demonstrations to draw international attention to alleged human rights violations and restrictions in occupied Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Indian authorities have imposed tight security measures across the occupied valley, particularly in Srinagar, ahead of Independence Day events.
Multiple layers of security have been deployed around Bakshi Stadium, while vehicles, passengers and pedestrians are being subjected to strict checking and searches.
Local reports indicate that movement in several areas remains under heightened security surveillance.
