Islamabad (HRNW)- The arrest of more than 200 foreign nationals has created significant space and staffing challenges for the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), according to sources.
Sources said the foreigners were arrested from a building in a private housing society, but the NCCIA currently lacks sufficient space to accommodate such a large number of suspects and does not have the required staff to manage them.
Authorities have therefore approached the district administration, requesting that the building where the arrested individuals are being kept be declared a temporary sub-jail.
According to initial investigations, the foreigners were allegedly operating illegal call centres from the building. The suspects reportedly include nationals of China, Vietnam, Indonesia and Malaysia, who had entered Pakistan on visit visas and were allegedly involved in illegal business activities.
Sources said the illegal call centres were traced during an investigation into a liquor smuggling case, following which the NCCIA launched an operation and arrested the suspects.
Further investigation is underway to determine the full scope of the alleged illegal activities and identify others who may be involved.
