Islamabad (HRNW) — The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) has unanimously approved a resolution regarding the creation of new provinces in Pakistan, calling for the matter to be considered strictly in accordance with the Constitution, due parliamentary procedure and national consensus.
The resolution does not constitute approval for the immediate creation of any specific new province. Instead, the PBC has emphasized that any change in provincial boundaries or creation of new provinces must follow the constitutional and parliamentary process.
The development comes amid an intensifying national debate over the creation of smaller provinces and administrative units, with proponents arguing that smaller units could improve governance, administrative efficiency and the delivery of public services.
The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has also recently expressed support for the creation of new provinces, describing the proposal as a potential step toward better governance and more balanced development.
The PBC’s position adds an important legal dimension to the ongoing debate and underscores the need for constitutional compliance and broad political and national consensus before any restructuring of provincial boundaries is undertaken.
