Manila (HRNW)- A 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Philippines on the morning of August 7, 2026, with tremors felt across the capital Manila and several surrounding areas, prompting precautionary evacuations from some buildings.
According to media reports, the earthquake’s epicenter was located off the coast of Occidental Mindoro. Tremors were felt in Mindoro, Manila, and Metro Manila, where residents in several high-rise buildings reported shaking that lasted for several seconds.
As a precautionary measure, authorities evacuated people from some government buildings, although no immediate reports of major damage or casualties were received.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), significant damage is not expected based on initial assessments. However, the agency warned that aftershocks are possible and advised the public to remain alert.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation while emergency agencies remain on standby in case of further seismic activity.
