Major Relief in Pension Rules: Heirs of Deceased Employees with Less Than 10 Years of Service May Also Qualify for Pension

Islamabad (HRNW) — A major relief has reportedly been extended to families of deceased government employees. According to a recent letter issued by the Finance Department, the heirs of a government employee who dies during service before completing the mandatory 10-year service period may also be eligible for pension under a special concession.

Under the general pension rules, a minimum of 10 years of qualifying service is normally required for pension eligibility. However, under the reported policy concession, the family of an employee who dies during service may be granted pensionary benefits with special approval or relaxation by the Finance Department.

The measure is aimed at protecting the families of deceased government employees from financial hardship and providing greater economic security to dependents who may suddenly lose their family’s primary source of income.

Affected heirs may contact their respective government department or Finance Department to obtain information regarding eligibility, required documents and the procedure for claiming the benefit.

Human Rights Perspective

Access to social protection and financial security is an important aspect of protecting human dignity and economic rights. Providing pensionary support to families of employees who die during service can help protect dependents from sudden financial hardship and provide them with greater social and economic security.
