Landslide Hits St. Mary Monastery in Ethiopia, At Least 14 Killed

Amhara (HRNW)- At least 14 people have been killed and seven others injured after a landslide struck St. Mary Monastery in Ethiopia’s Amhara region during heavy rainfall.

According to media reports, the landslide occurred at the monastery following heavy rains while hundreds of people had gathered there to attend a religious ceremony.

Rescue operations are continuing, and officials fear that more people may still be trapped beneath the rubble, raising concerns that the death toll could increase.

Initial reports did not confirm whether all of those killed were monks, as the victims also included worshippers who had come to participate in the religious gathering.
