Rome (HRNW)- The seventh round of US-sponsored talks between Lebanon and Israel has begun in the Italian capital, where both sides are discussing issues related to the implementation of the framework agreement.
According to the Lebanese state news agency NNA, the negotiations are focused on unresolved matters, including border and security issues, with the aim of reducing tensions and narrowing differences between the two countries through diplomatic engagement.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah Secretary-General Naim Qassem strongly criticized the negotiations, saying that direct talks with Israel would bring nothing but humiliation, disgrace, and continuous compromises for Lebanon.
In a televised address, Naim Qassem also criticized Lebanese President Joseph Aoun, saying the president should have remained neutral among all political parties but instead appeared to be taking a biased and divisive position, which he claimed was inconsistent with Lebanon’s national interests.
The Hezbollah leader stressed that safeguarding Lebanon’s sovereignty and national interests requires adopting a firm national stance rather than engaging in direct negotiations with Israel.
The latest round of talks comes amid continued border tensions and security concerns between Lebanon and Israel, with the United States playing a central role in facilitating diplomatic efforts between the two sides.
According to political observers, the negotiations are part of broader efforts to ease regional tensions, although Hezbollah’s strong opposition may complicate prospects for future progress.
