Washington (HRNW)- US Central Command (CENTCOM) has claimed that US forces have so far diverted 44 merchant ships during the ongoing naval blockade against Iran, while two vessels have been disabled and two others boarded by US personnel.
According to a statement issued by CENTCOM, these actions are part of ongoing US naval operations in the Strait of Hormuz and other key regional shipping lanes aimed at enforcing maritime sanctions imposed against Iran.
The statement said that the US Navy and its allied forces are continuously monitoring regional sea lanes and tracking the movements of commercial vessels passing through the area.
CENTCOM stated that, to date, 44 merchant vessels have been diverted to alternative routes, two ships have been disabled, and two additional vessels have been boarded by US personnel as part of the operation.
US officials did not disclose the identities of the vessels involved, nor did they provide details regarding their flags, ownership, or cargo.
The development comes amid continued tensions between Iran and the United States in the Strait of Hormuz, where both countries have accused each other of interfering with maritime navigation.
According to global analysts, the Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes, through which significant volumes of crude oil and natural gas are transported. Any escalation of tensions in the area could have an immediate impact on global energy markets, maritime trade, and oil prices.
