Islamabad (HRNW) – A severe cold wave is ongoing across Pakistan, with temperatures dropping to unusually low levels in various parts of the country, disrupting normal life. The cold spell has affected almost all regions, including major cities and coastal areas.
In Punjab, the cold is at its peak, and authorities have issued an alert for severe cold, dense fog and possible snowfall from January 10 to January 16. Morning fog has badly affected traffic flow, forcing people to avoid unnecessary travel.
In northern areas, Hunza recorded an extremely low temperature of minus 20 degrees Celsius, reflecting the intensity of the cold wave. In Balochistan’s capital Quetta, the temperature dropped to around minus 1 degree.
Similarly, temperatures in Islamabad, Lahore and Peshawar were recorded between 1 to 4 degrees Celsius. Coastal city Karachi has also experienced a sharp drop in temperature, reaching single digits between 7 and 9 degrees due to cold winds.
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Pakistan Meteorological Department have issued advisories urging citizens to take precautionary measures, wear warm clothing and remain cautious during extreme weather conditions.
